The founding date of the Arld firm can be traced back to the year 1861 when Andreas Heinrich Arld, master craftsman in metalwork, established the company which today still bears his name in Jakobstr. 20.

 

Production in the early years comprised military effects and jewellery for carnival and theatre. As early as 1893 the firm described itself as an "Engraving and minting firm", and then also began producing metal tokens, medallions and association badges.

 

The "Heinrich Arld Mint" around 1920 was one of the few firms in Germany that produced the so-called "emergency money" during the sparse times of the 1st World War.

The coins, which were also known as "small change substitute tokens", were used in 50 towns and boroughs of the time.

 

As a result of the consequences of the 2nd World War, the owner at that time had to move the firm twice within the ruins of Nuremberg in order to be able to continue running the badly affected company.

 

Following a further change in ownership Reinhold Schrödl, master craftsman in mechanical engineering, took over as shareholder-managing director of the Heinrich Arld GmbH in Humboldtstrasse. 158.
