History

Arld is able to trace its history back to the year 1861, when master metal artefact craftsman Andres Heinrich Arld founded the company, which bears his name to this day, at number 20 Jakobstrasse, Nuremberg. In the early days the company manufactured military insignias and jewellery for carnivals and theatres. But, as early as 1893, the company was already describing itself as an "engraving and embossing" enterprise, thereafter commencing the manufacture of metal tokens, medals and badges for clubs and societies etc.. Around 1920, "Münzprägeanstalt Heinrich Arld" was one of the few companies in Germany to manufacture so-called "emergency money" during the difficult days of the First World War. The coins, also referred to as "small change substitutes", were used in 50 cities and municipalities at the time. During the aftermath of the Second World War the incumbent owner had to twice relocate the company, very much the worse for wear, within the ruined city of Nuremberg in order to keep running. Following a further change of ownership, Master Mechanic in mechanical engineering Reinhold Schrödl took over Heinrich Arld GmbH, now at 185 Humboldtstrasse, as Company Director, in 1995. The metal tokens of old had now gradually turned into the first vending machine tokens. The use of ever more state-of-the-art machinery and the development of new process engineering processes brought about a considerable increase in productivity.

The manufacture of truly secure tokens - and in an unbelievably broad range - enabled the company to establish itself in the marketplace. Today, the company's plant includes fast minting presses and automatic hole punching machines. It also runs its own special machinery construction shop where it makes machines and tools for its own use. Qualified, highly motivated staff are a guarantee for top quality and short delivery periods. Coping with orders for several million units is just as normal for the company as delivering products to regular customers the same day as they are ordered and as the three-day delivery period for particularly urgent orders for customised items. The company is constantly engaged in increasing its diverse product range by the use of ever new metals and the development of innovative token shapes in order to provide customers with inexpensive, precise and particularly secure tokens in the years ahead.
